Elegia: Demo I/II Cassette

Review by Rotwang

Elegia is a band hailing from Brazil. Originally formed in 1989, Elegia has rerelased its original demos in preparation for their debut CD. Paying homage to The Cure, Sisters of Mercy and the like, this self-described goth band has developed quite a following in its native Brazil, as well as in Japan. With a sound that combines traditional 80's rock rhythms with dark, brooding lyrics, Elegia has that ubiquitous death-rock sound with a goth pop edge. Consisting of Dimas Ricardo (bass), Marcelo D'Angelo (guitar), and brothers Escobar (drums) and Paulo Gotoh (vocals), the band is a diverse collective with roots randing from new wave, punk, and Brazilian tribal.
