Chandeen: A Taste Like Ginger

Review by Rotwang

Famed German "dream-pop" band Chandeen is now more accessable to their fans in America, thanks to Cleopatra Records. Like other former Hyperium Recordings act Die Form, Chandeen records have been extremely hard to find. Well, now "A Taste Liek Ginger," a best-of compilation is available for those who have heard about Chandeen, but have been unable to find any of their releases. Comprising of Chandeen's most popular songs, as well as a few original and live songs, "A Taste Like Ginger" starts out with mostly upbeat synth-pop (which makes one wonder why Cleopatra suddenly decided that Chandeen is "goth") interspersed with some of their darker songs later on. Overall, though, if you are looking for something dark and depressing, you will probably be quite disappointed. However, those looking for something more upbeat will definately enjoy listening only to get the catchy themes stuck in your head for the next couple of days. Despite being a very accessable band that has the potential to be liked by many people, Cleopatra has targeted the release to an audience that will probably ignore them for the most part.
